LEAF is an adivasi peoples group that works essentially in Bastar, Chhatisgarh. The Legal and Environmental Advisory Forum (LEAF) a Community Based Organisation, was informally established in 1999 in Bastar, a district of the state of Chattisgarh in Central India. This group mainly comprises of indigenous people of the area. LEAF has evolved through the interaction between a lawyer, a field botanist and the adivasi people in central Bastar, for well over a decade.
LEAF’s essential activities concern

a) legal literacy among the adivasi peoples of Bastar and
b) the links between conservation and forest laws.
The Forum is now active in six villages and provides a space where adivasi people meet regularly and discuss their legal problems. The main activities that LEAF occupies itself with are seed collection and nurseries, NTFP gathering/processing and trade, legal advice and the revival of customary laws. LEAF members also publish articles and booklets and are associated with other environmental work in India and abroad.
