Seedstrust
SEEDS Trust is a non-governmental, not-for-profit, non-sectarian, social service organization
established in the year of 1997, under the Indian Charitable Trusts Act 1882. The Governing Body consists of five Trustees, who are very committed and dedicated to Community
Development and Nature Conservation. The Trust was founded by Muthusamy Palanivel, who is
the Founder member cum Author of the Trust.
SEEDS Trust envisions enabling the disadvantaged communities to become self-reliant through
integrated sustainable livelihoods and nature conservation programmes, which are beneficial
not only to the present generation but also to future generations.
The organization’s mission is to address the issues that impede the social and economic
development of the target communities for enhancing their physical, educational, environmental
and economic status. The organization believes that the accumulation of local developments will
transform into global development and ultimately will contribute to the aim of Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) of UN.
The various programme areas of SEEDS Trust include:
NTFP-related work that entails a. the conservation of NTFPs, wild foods and medicinal plants
in the Ayyalur forest region of the Eastern Ghats in Dindigul district and b. promoting specific
non-timber forest produce like Solanum torvum, wild tubers, honey, etc., for collection and
livelihood of forest-dependent communities.
Women and child development which includes a. supporting the education and rehabilitation
of women, girls, street children and working children, b. supporting community development
among tribal people, fishermen, women and farmers, c. health, water and sanitation, d. human
rights and labor right programmes, e. training on income generation and skill development to
disadvantaged groups.
Bio-diversity conservation through a. conservation of coastal ecosystems and mangrove
regeneration, b. conservation of Eastern and Western Ghats eco-systems, c. slender loris
sanctuary conservation, d. agro-forestry for sustainable livelihoods development and e. wild life
conservation.
SEEDS Trust works in the districts of Dindigul, Karur, Kanniyakumari and Thoothukudi of Tamil
Nadu.
